FAQ
1)
What is the Mobila?
Answer: The Mobila is a new technology for the presentation of
mobile in-door full motion multimedia digital advertising,
consisting of five main components: a) a mobility scooter, b) large
digital displays, c) audio speakers, d) a support mechanism for the
displays and the speakers, and e) a control mechanism for the
multimedia system.
2) What is the function of the
Mobila?
Answer: The Mobila is used for indoor presentations of high impact
digital full motion multimedia signage and advertising.
3) What's so special about the
Mobila?
Answer: The Mobila is the only significant indoor (or in-building)
form of mobile
digital signage/advertising. The mobility of the Mobila within
buildings makes the Mobila a highly effective tool for signage and
advertising.
5) Where would one deploy the
Mobila?
Answer: Typically one would deploy Mobilas in shopping malls across
Canada and the USA, and in other places where there is a high
density of pedestrian traffic.
6) Is the Mobila a proprietary
technology?
Answer: Yes, the Mobila is a proprietary technology. The technology
is owned by its inventor and developer, AKAS Virtual Design of
Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
7) Is the Mobila a finalized
technology?
Answer: No, the present version of the Mobila is that of an Alpha
prototype. As such the prototype verifies the operational
functionality of the technology. (It is the "Model T"
version of today's car.) Presently, the Mobila is being transformed
into a more aesthetically pleasing technology, for full market
deployment across Canada. Please check our website for new concept
ideas for the next generation of Mobilas.
8) Is it difficult to operate a
Mobila?
Answer: No. The operation of a Mobila is no more complicated than
that of a common mobility scooter and a multimedia player. (The
Mobila can be further modified with "assistive technology"
so as to accommodate the requirements of particular disabilities.)
9) Would a Mobila Operator be
expected to drive the Mobila all day?
Answer: No. One would operate a Mobila in a shopping mall much as
one would operate a mobility scooter, e.g. drive to a desired
location and stop for a silent multimedia presentation. And after a
period of time, e.g. 20 minutes, the Mobila Operator might choose to
relocate to another location.
10) Would the job of Mobila
Operator be boring?
Answer: No, not necessarily. The Mobila Operator would have
considerable autonomy to operate the Mobila within the shopping
mall. In addition, he/she would often have other duties as assigned
by the shopping mall administration, e.g. passing out sales flyers,
or communicating with passers-by.
11) How many hours per day could
(or would) a Mobila Operator run a Mobila?
Answer: The amount of hours per day will vary between shopping malls
and throughout the year. Typically a Mobila Operator would work six
hours per day, covering peak shopping hours.
12) Would the Mobila Operator have
breaks throughout their work period each day?
Answer: Of course. The Mobila Operator could, if they wished, return
the Mobila to its port within the mall and to then return to their
personal scooter for their break period.
13) Wouldn't it be difficult for a
Mobila Operator to listen to an audio speaker with a recurring
message during their work day?
Answer: No. The audio speaker will typically be turned off, and only
activated by the Mobila Operator for special events. (The provision
of multimedia content is fully controllable by the Mobila Operator.)
14) Why would a shopping mall
administration want a Mobila to be operating within their location?
Answer: The Mobila will enhance the mall's entertainment value
thereby improving the shopping experience. The Mobilas will
provide digital multimedia signage/advertising for the shopping mall
itself, and will effectively demonstrate the shopping mall's
commitment to employment fairness for persons with disabilities. In
addition, in the same fashion that the providers of digital
advertising pay the shopping malls for the use of stationary
locations of digital signage, they may do the same for mobile
digital signage.
15) Who would provide the
multimedia content for the Mobilas?
Answer: AKAS Virtual Design will provide up-to-date high impact full
motion multimedia content by online delivery to the Mobila
Operators. The content will typically consist of an entertaining and
informative blend of news, sports, store specials, shopping mall
events etc.
16) As a radically new marketing
innovation isn't there a lot of risk associated with the acceptance
of the Mobila in the marketplace?
Answer: The risks are relatively low. The Mobila builds upon the
acceptance of three earlier innovations: a) stationary digital
advertising within malls such as one would commonly see in a mall
food court, b) outdoor mobile digital advertising such as one would
commonly see on the side of a city bus, and c) electric mobility
scooters such as are commonly used by persons with disabilities
within shopping malls.
17) Who would own the Mobilas?
Answer: Presently, in the Mobila's market launch phase, the Mobilas
will be owned by AKAS Virtual Design. They may be rented or leased
to major advertising companies that work extensively with shopping
malls, as one of their means of advertising.
18) How would one get a job as a
Mobila Operator?
Answer: People who wish to become Mobila Operators should register
their interest with the local employment agency for persons with
disabilities, or if no such agency is available, with AKAS Virtual
Design.
19) What qualifications must one
have so as to be a Mobila Operator?
Answer: Of first importance, one should have a physical
disability that would hinder one's employment in the open
marketplace.
20) Must one undergo any training
so as to become a Mobila Operator?
Answer: Yes. To be a certified Mobila Operator one must take a
two-hour training program administered by a local employment agency.
The training is offered free of charge to selected candidates.
21) Who would be the employer of
the Mobila Operators?
Answer: Presently, in the Mobila's market launch phase, AKAS Virtual
Design will be the employer of the Mobila Operators. However, by the
conclusion of the market launch phase in early 2009, the
administration of the shopping malls, or their providers of
advertising may wish to undertake this role.
